Meet our Mentors

  • Christine Chen

UC Berkeley | Rhetoric & Political Science

HR Business Partner @ Amazon (former)

Christine studied at UC Berkeley and graduated with a double major in Rhetoric and Political Science. She has been working in HR for the last 9 years and has applied her HR thinking cap in various different industries. In her spare time, Christine enjoys spending time with her besties, reading a good book at Inklings cafe, zip-lining across the Sonoma Forest and finding the next best escape room to get out of!

  • Edgar Toledo

    UC Berkeley | Architecture

    Senior Architecture Designer @ KTGY

Edgar studied architecture and sustainable building design at UC Berkeley. He has been working in many residential buildings around the bay area and abroad for the past 9 years. He loves the built environment as well as conserving nature. On his spare time you can find him building his own furniture or gardening!

  • Kyle Hench

    UC Berkeley | Chemical Biology

    Research Associate @ Chevron (former)

Kyle studied chemical biology at UC Berkeley, and went on to work at Chevron for five years as a research associate in an analytical chemistry lab. One highlight during his time at Chevron was developing technology that supports the production of a cleaner fuel oil, including co-authorship of a patent. He had such a good time developing software utilities that he decided to begin training to become a software developer. In his free time he enjoys reading, running, and hiking.

  • Nancy Chen

    UC Berkeley | Civil Engineering

Engineer @ City of Mountain View

Nancy graduated from UC Berkeley in Civil and Environmental engineering. After some years in the private sector, she started working in the public sector first at the City of Chula Vista and now at Mountain View helping cities run. Other than working, she enjoys to cook, plant things or get her hands on fixing things or building things (like a real engineer).

  • Dustin Chen

UC San Diego | General Biology

    Data Engineer @ TeePublic

Dustin has been mentoring middle school and high school students for over 4 years (he also used to be a math and science teacher!). Previously he studied marine biology and obtained a master's in marine science, but then he jumped ship and dove into the world of data analytics (don't worry, he doesn't feel salty about the change). You can often find Dustin trying out a new recipe in the kitchen or “encouraging” his friends with a game of Star Realms (he’s got a pretty remarkable loss record).

  • Sam Liu

UC San Diego | Computer Science

    Software Development Engineer @ Workday

Sam graduated from UC San Diego and has been working at Workday Student as a coder building a system for colleges to use. He also loves to cook, play sports (ultimate frisbee! :D), and read fantasy novels.

  • Alyssa Vue

    UC Davis | Human Development

Staff Services Analyst @ The School for the Blind

Alyssa studied Human Development and graduated from UC Davis (Go Aggies!) She is currently working at The California School for the Blind located in Fremont, CA. She is friendly, sociable, and loves cats. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, baking, playing volleyball, and learning a new craft. She picked up crocheting, soap making, and flower drying during shelter-in-place.

  • Daryl Wong

UC Berkeley | Electrical Engineering & Computer Science

    Curriculum Developer @ CodeHS

Daryl studied engineering and CS, and then went to graduate school for Education. He's merged his two passions as a STEM educator, doing everything from coding to robotics to 3D printing with students. Currently he is developing computer science curriculum with CodeHS. Outside, you can find him on local hikes, or going a little faster than he probably should on his bike around town.
