WHAT

AYM San Diego’s College Prep & Leadership Camp is a 3-day program from August 11 to 13.

This is specifically for high schoolers, as our aim is to help upperclassmen (11th/12th) with the college application process with workshops for college essay writing, how to apply and how to foster leadership qualities. These workshops will be taught by UCSD and SDSU college students.

For incoming 9th graders, we can help with the transition into high school. For 10th graders, it’s necessary to prepare for the last years, so we’ll grow your character.

Also, we want to help students with their career exploration as we will have many guest speakers from different companies in local San Diego like Google, Amazon, Illumina, Lytx, AMN Healthcare, and many more. We’ll talk about qualities you can develop now in high school as well as how to choose a career path.

There will be many tracks to talk about topics such as - “How to be Productive”, Wellness, Christian Worldview, and Character Growth. See below for more details.

AYM is a non-profit Christian youth mentorship organization passionate to see youth grow in their faith. AYM has a chapter in San Diego. The camp is run by college students and alumni from UC San Diego and UC Berkeley.

Conference Tracks

  • Leadership Traits

Leadership refers to the ability to guide individuals, teams, or organizations toward the fulfillment of goals and objectives. It plays an important function in your future. Learn how to motivate others, provide guidance, build morale, improve the environment, and initiate action.

  • Productivity Hacks

Productivity has become a top priority in our society, especially with high schoolers. The conference will not focus on the tools but rather the techniques and habitual changes that make a real difference to productivity. These are backed by science and geared towards the high school context.

  • Wellness

We’ll focus on wellness from an emotional and mental health perspective by talking about the importance of reflection and different ways to manage stress and overall emotional health. We all need older mentors to talk to and that’s a huge resource at AYM that we can provide.

  • Character Growth

We all know the importance of developing your character but where to start? Two topics that we’ll cover are integrity - the quality of being honest and also the importance of having strong moral principles.

  • Transitioning to High School

Specifically for incoming 9th graders or those switching to a new school. Transitioning from middle to high school is a big change. There is more independence and personal responsibility required of you as you choose your own classes and activities to participate in as well as pressure to set yourself up for success in the future. We’ll cover how to start off on the right foot so that you have a smooth transition.

  • Inside Scoop on AP Classes

Everyone knows that AP classes are important for college applications but how can you prepare to succeed and which ones should you take and when should you take them? We’ll offer tips on how to succeed, provide guidance on what classes to take and you can ask us any questions you have about anything and everything related to AP testing.
